Most of them were from Charlotteans, trying to spread the word about the Queen City s finer points:

THE MISSION THIS MORNING:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Let s say, for a second, that you are a very important Democrat.
Let s also say that you are a social media fiend who will be combing the internet for information about possible locations for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Also, check your watch.
Is it between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 19?
Are you on Twitter?
This message is for you.
The social-media conscious folks at cltblog.com are doing their best to organize a crowdsourced hijacking of the DNC hashtag during the narrow window of time and smother it with Charlotte love.
A hashtag, for the uninformed, is the way people organize their tweets by topic. #DNC10 is what the DNC is using for their summer meeting in St. Louis, which starts today (St. Louis is also a 2012 convention finalist).
The idea, according to cltblog s Desiree Kane, is for anyone out there to say what a great city Charlotte is. If they put #DNC10 somewhere inside their message, hopefully some very important Democrats will see it.
We ll be watching for some of the best (and worst) tweets throughout it all, and we ll post some of them here.
