CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. -- South Carolina Highway Patrol says a motorcyclist was killed after hitting a turkey.

The accident happened at Leeds Road around 6:15 p.m. Monday. Authorities say the driver struck the turkey, ran off the left side of the road and struck several mailboxes.

According to troopers, the driver was not wearing a helmet.

His name has not yet been released, but officials say the driver is a 39-year-old Carlisle, South Carolina-resident.
