LANCASTER, S.C. -- Two parents have been arrested after leaving their children in a hot car, according to Lancaster Police.

An officer responded to the Walmart parking lot on Highway 9 Bypass West on Wednesday just after 6 p.m.

The officer found two children in the back of a car. The windows were partially rolled down and the temperature was around 90 degrees at the time, the police report says.

The children told the officer their parents went into Walmart about 20 minutes before he arrived, which police say is about the same amount of time verified by surveillance video.

Tabitha Griffin and Jonathan Jones then came back to the car and told the officer they were in the store 10 minutes to buy one of her children medicine, which she was carrying. The parents reportedly told police they didn t bring the children inside because the one child wasn t feeling well.

Griffin and Jones are charged with unlawful conduct towards a child.
