It happened on Sunman Road off Old Plank around 6 a.m.

The owner, who was too upset to speak on camera, said he came home around 4:30 in the morning and went to bed.

He heard his smoke detectors and noises coming from the front of his house and woke to his wife and children.

We tried to get out of the front, but went we got to the door, the flames, we couldn't get out that way, he said.

The family managed to escape through a back door.

The homeowner, his wife and three children, who have lived in the single story house since 2002, were not injured.

The fire department said it took more than two dozen firefighters 18 minutes to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is too early to know the estimated cost of the damage, although the house is destroyed.
