WAXHAW, N.C. -- The town of Waxhaw is working on new rules to protect families from dangerous animals.

Tuesday night, the police chief gave the town council suggestions for a new ordinance in response to the death of 5-year-old Makayla Woodard, who was attacked by two pit bulls in January.

The ordinance wasn't discussed publicly and details have not been released.

The chief also said Waxhaw police are in the process of training an animal control officer.
