HICKORY, N.C. -- Put on your dancing shoes and dance your way to downtown Hickory to celebrate the memories of our veterans on Sunday, May 29, at 7 p.m. when the Hickory Jazz Orchestra will perform a Tribute to the Big Band Era on the Flag Court of Union Square.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, this 18-piece jazz orchestra will honor the memory of soldiers serving in the armed forces with swing dancing and tunes from such greats as Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. There will be ample room at the Flag Court for those wishing to dance.

This event is free to the public, so bring your own chair or reserve a seat in a prime location for $10. Groups will be accommodated with special parking available for vans and/or buses. Contact 828-322-1121 to reserve your seat today.

As a special treat this year, Rick Cline has organized a performance by the stage band of the Northview Middle School during the award-winning event. Swinging Under the Stars was recognized as the Best Downtown Event in North Carolina in 2009.

WHKY talk show host, Hal Row, will serve as the emcee again this year to share the history behind the music.

Swinging Under the Stars is hosted by Hickory Downtown Development Association and is sponsored by the Olde Hickory Tap Room.
