CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- No one was injured after a fire broke out at a Mecklenburg County Jail in north Charlotte early Wednesday morning.
Charlotte firefighters were called to the Mecklenburg County Jail off of Spector Drive near Statesville Road around 4 a.m.
Fire officials said they were able to get the fire under control quickly.
Officials said a light fixture exploded and fell onto a couch, igniting the fire. The fire started in the day area of the jail, which is also known as the recreational area for the inmates.
There were 614 inmates that were inside at the time of the fire and everyone was accounted for.
Police said caused less than $500 in damages.
