HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Hopewell High School was placed on lockdown for nearly two hours Monday morning after a police situation near the school.

Officials from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said the lockdown was put in place around 9:50 Monday morning because of criminal activity in a neighborhood near the school's campus.

Huntersville police say there was a break in on Latta Springs Circle, located in a neighborhood across the street, that led to a foot chase.

One person is in custody, and police are still looking for two more suspects involved in the incident. Police said the one suspect they have in custody is a student at Hopewell.

There is no direct threat to students and faculty, according to officials. The school is located on Beatties Ford Road in Huntersville.

The lockdown was lifted at 11:40 a.m.
