CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities believe a pedestrian who was struck and killed early Sunday morning in Plaza Midwood may have been consuming alcohol.

About half-past 2 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the intersection of The Plaza and Parkwood Avenue for an accident involving a pedestrian.

Police say the pedestrian, 55-year-old Curtina Tyrone Audrey, walked into the intersection, outside of the crosswalk, when she was struck by a passing 2003 Mitsubishi Galant.

Audrey was pronounced deceased on the scene by MEDIC.

Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor, police say, and alcohol use by the pedestrian is suspected.

The crash remains under investigation.
