STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Two men are in police custody after firing a shotgun and striking two people at a home in Statesville on Sunday.
Statesville Police responded to a reported shooting Sunday night around 8:45 in the 1400 block of Woodruff Street.
Officers say they found two victims, a 13-year-old and an adult male, with minor injuries. The victims suffered welts to the skin after being shot with pellets from a shotgun, police say.
Due to the nature of the situation, Statesville Police called in their Special Response Team, who assisted in securing a perimeter around the home.
At this point, officers directed the occupants of the home to exit the residence. Five people came out and were interviewed by authorities on the scene.
Following the interviews, two people were arrested at the home: 20-year-old Dysheem Hart and 18-year-old Rayshawn Ivory.
Police say Hart and Ivory had been firing the shotgun in the backyard of the home when the two victims were struck.
Hart and Ivory are both charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm inside the city limits.
The shotgun was located and seized during the investigation.
Hart and Ivory are both held in the Iredell County Detention Center under $25,000 bonds.
