CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- Three people were killed in a Caldwell County wreck Wednesday evening.

It happened around 6:45 near U.S. 64 and Old Morganton Road.

Troopers tell NBC Charlotte two women were headed to church when they noticed a driver behind them traveling fast and erratically.

The driver moved over but was struck by the other erratic driver, according to NCHP.

The alleged causing driver was a woman in her 20s, accompanied by another woman and a child between 5 and 7 years old.Troopers say the chlid was not strapped in properly. The car swerved after the collision and rolled into a 25 foot embankment. The child was ejected.

All three were killed.

Investigators say the car was traveling around 90 mph, indicating speed is a factor.

The other women will be fine.

The highway has reopened.
