MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Members of The Point Lake and Golf Club voted to approve the sale of their club to Donald Trump Thursday night.
More than 70 percent of the votes cast throughout the month of March were in favor of a Trump takeover. The alternate was to turn The Point into a member-owned club.
Trump will pay the club s current owner, Crescent Properties, $3 million for the lakeside community. He told NewsChannel 36 by phone Thursday he was excited about the vote and plans to move quickly on the project.
The real estate mogul s son, Eric Trump, called the decision an overwhelming victory. He told NewsChannel 36 the first order of business would be to replace the tennis courts, followed by an overhaul of the golf course.
Donald Trump gave NewsChannel 36 an exclusive interview after he visited the property to make an in-person pitch to members in February. He said he will rename the development Trump National Golf Club, Charlotte and plans to make it the most luxurious club in the greater Charlotte area.
That plan is what worries some of the current residents. They believe Trump s long term ideas will take the neighborhood feel out of the community. Some are also afraid they will be priced out of their own homes.
The Trumps are expected to visit The Point Monday.
