CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A building boom in uptown.

And it centers on a big project that just got underway.

It's official.

The Panthers winning season may have come to an end, but the heartbreaking playoff loss meant construction at the stadium has just begun -- a few days ahead of schedule.

Max Walker is a landscaper helping with the stadium s $100 million renovation.

We are a part of a lot of big projects downtown here, he says.

In fact, there's a building boom once again all across uptown Charlotte.

We are getting work all over the place.

The ballpark is almost done. So are several once stalled condo projects.

The Vue, local luxury apartments, are now 80 percent rented and the Sky Charlotte Condos, formerly known as The Park, already has contracts signed on half the units.

Charlotte Center City Partners tracks all uptown construction and told us there are dozens of projects underway right now.

It s growing tremendously. From a job perspective -- people wanting to move here, uptown resident Morgan Harris said while walking her dog in Romare Bearden Park.

UNCC s economist says construction jobs will be up even more this year and are a big part of the reason Charlotte's economy is continuing to recover.

A real estate broker in uptown, Scott Russo says he's starting to see a lot of construction cranes again.

In the last year, year-and-a-half, things have really picked up. Cranes are springing up, we re seeing them at the ballpark. Here at our building things are on the move.

The stadium renovation project will take three years and be will done in the off-seasons.
