STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Statesville Police arrested a 25-year-old man for an alleged forcible rape that occurred over a year ago.
A female victim reported to Statesville Police in January 2013 that she had been raped. The victim told authorities that while she was walking back to her home in the 400 block of Signal Hill Drive, she was attacked and dragged into the woods by three men.
One of the men, the victim says, sexually assaulted her.
Statesville Police have been examining physical evidence and conducting interviews over the last year and developed 25-year-old James Calvin Smyre, Jr., as the suspect.
Smyre was arrested Monday at a home in the 200 block of North Patterson Street without incident. He's charged with first-degree forcible rape.
Smyre was booked in to the Iredell County Detention Center under a $250,000 bond.
