MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A Charlotte area dog suffered injuries after it was pelted with stones. She s now on the road to recovery.
The search is now on for the people who did it.
Just about every dog that comes in the door at Matthews Pressly Animal Hospital needs a little extra love, and almost always some special attention.
Owner and veterinarian Dr. William Pressly says, We re the voice of all the mistreated, unwanted dogs.
Two-thirds of the animals at the hospital are rescues.
We do a lot of sick dogs, hit by car, dogs been thrown away at the shelter that nobody wants. We fix.
This week they got a case that just has them angry. They've named her Fortune. She's a 3-year-old bichon.
This is probably where she might have been struck by a rock or two, the vet says, pointing to some sores on her legs.
Last Tuesday, a Good Samaritan says he drove by and saw two men throwing rocks at Fortune. He jumped out, grabbed her and brought her to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Control.
Animal control is now investigating, and Charlotte's SPCA, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is helping try to find her a home.
The vet caring for her believes she was also hit by a car but despite all of her injuries, she is as sweet as can be.
He's hopeful after a few surgeries and some time healing, she'll be okay.
Whoever gets her and becomes her forever family is going to have a heck of a pet. She s a super sweet dog.
