CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A lightning strike ignited a four-alarm fire in Charlotte.

It started just before 8 p.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of Toomey Avenue at the Carolina Foods warehouse.

Firefighters say they arrived to find heavy smoke and fire and spent hours getting the fire under control, despite the heavy rain.

About 80 firefighters responded and several of them were treated for exhaustion.

Investigators have determined lightning that struck cardboard sparked the fire, which did about $500,000 work of damage.

There were no serious injuries reported during the fire.
