CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mayor Anthony Foxx announced Wednesday that former mayor Harvey Gantt will develop the blueprint for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

Gantt will survey best practices and propose a plan of action for the event.

Gantt said he plans to talk with leaders at previous host cities.

I think what we want to do is look at what the structure was that caused that to happen, what kind of committee we should have and the kinds of people we need to engage, Gantt said.

Gantt said he plans to touch base with organizers from Boston and Denver in the next couple of weeks.

Mayor Gantt is the perfect person to help Charlotte transition from recruiting the 2012 Convention to now making it a great event for all concerned, and I thank him for his willingness to help on such a short time-line, Foxx said in a news release.
