WAXHAW, N.C. Waxhaw police are looking for vandals that broke several windows out of a building in the historic district of Waxhaw.

The old Belk store, now home for the Waxhaw Woman s Club, has been a part of Waxhaw history since 1894.

And this week, the 100th anniversary of the club, members were greeted with rocks that smashed out ten front windows.

The Woman s Club is not a building, not just a building, but it s an organization of women with a heart to serve the community, Carol Holtzclaw said.

When they re breaking these windows, they re taking away from some really wonderful causes, she added.

Ann Luther, who works next door said, I looked up and the very first window had a hole in it that big, as she used her hand to form a circle about the size of a baseball.

Crime is unusual in the small Union County town but no stranger to 200 East South Main.

This is not the first time these windows have been broken, Luther said.

Police believe the vandalism occurred early Monday morning and ask anyone with information to call Waxhaw police at 704-283-5600 or Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600.
