ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. A Rowan County Sheriff s Deputy has lost his job and is behind bars accused of stalking.

According to officials, the China Grove Police Department issued a warrant for Brian Michael Long, 33, for misdemeanor stalking.

Reportedly, Long placed a tracking device on his former girlfriend's car.

Investigators tell NBC Charlotte, Long worked in the Rowan County Detention Center.

Last week, he was suspended with pay pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

He was arrested Saturday shortly before midnight by Kannapolis Police during a traffic stop.

He s now being held in the Cabarrus County Detention Center without bond. He s expected to appear in court on Monday.

In a press release sent to NBC Charlotte, the sheriff s department said The Rowan County Sheriff s Office mailed a letter to Brian Long s last known address, on Friday, informing him that his services were no longer needed as an employee, and requesting that all issued equipment be returned to the Sheriff s Office.
