GASTONIA, N.C. -- A man is accused of killing his mother during a house fire earlier this month.

Gastonia police said 47-year-old Jerry Gibble intentionally set a fire inside his home on October 12th that killed his mother, Brenda Jenkins Dixon, from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Dixon was asleep at the time when Gibble started the fire. Authorities said she died from carbon monoxide poisoning during the fire.

Police charged Gibble with murder on Monday. Gibble started the fire at a rental home they both shared on McFarland Avenue.

Gibble is a convicted felon. He has face charges in the past from from DWI to assault on a female and possessing drug paraphernalia.

He spent seven years in prison from 2005 to 2012 for habitual DWIs and felony charges.

Gibble was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson. He is being held at the Gaston County Jail without bond.
