MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Hundreds of runners and walkers supported one of their own for a worthy cause. Most of them wore blue T-shirts with the words See Kristen Run across the front.

She's an inspiration to everyone, said one woman as she pulled on a shirt and started to stretch.

Saturday, family and friends held the first ever See Kristen Run 5K run and walk.

The event was planned to help pay some of the medical bills that Kristen Seaford incurred after a serious illness cost her a leg and both hands.

At first the married mother of five young children thought she had the flu, but that escalated to double pneumonia and sepsis set in quickly. Heavy doses of medication helped cure her, but killed her extremities. Her hands and leg were amputated.

This didn't stop her. She is adjusting and actually took part in the walk.

I can feel and see the love of everyone, Seaford said as she led the walk. This is awesome. It shows what a loving community we have.
