CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are looking for a man who opened fire and shot another man in a busy northeast Charlotte intersection.

The victim was driving a white Chevrolet Malibu on The Plaza Friday evening when shots rang out.

Witnesses say an argument between two people escalated into the victim being shot. One witness said the victim jumped out of the car at the intersection of The Plaza and Eastway Drive. He ran in front of another vehicle and at some point during the gunfire, a second car was hit with bullets. The driver of the second car got out to help the man who was shot.

The victim had been shot in the back. Witnesses say he was hysterical and appeared to be losing a lot of blood.

Julie Syron s husband was driving along Eastway Drive and the Plaza, on his way him from work when he came across the wounded victim. He was just screaming on the phone saying he just saw someone get shot and he couldn t save him.

Witnesses told police the gunman fled the scene with several occupants with him. He was last seen heading inbound on the Plaza, possibly in a Ford Crown Victoria.

While it s unclear what prompted the argument, many witnesses realized it could have been worse since it all happened at a busy intersection on a Friday evening.

The victim was taken to CMC with life-threatening injuries.
