One-fifth of voters in South Carolina say they're behind the late night TV host. hat's according to a survey from Public Policy Polling.
Representatives Tim Scott, Trey Gowdy and Jenny Sanford are also named in the poll.
Governor Nikki Haley will make the appointment by January 1. So far, Haley has dismissed Colbert's interest in the senate seat.
DeMint is leaving Capitol Hill to head a conservative think tank.
