CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- U.S. mail is not sale.

That s the message coming from Charlotte postal workers taking part in a national protest.

The U.S. Postal Service and Staples started a pilot program selling postal products and services inside retail stores.

Postal workers say they re worried about losing their jobs, and the long-term consequences for the community.

These jobs are not supporting middle class wages, where the postal jobs are, USPS employee Cindy Foster told NBC Charlotte. Let s say that store does not do well financially and they close it. Then where does the public go for mail?

Some employees also said Staples cannot guarantee the safety of mail.

If the program is successful, it will expand to all 1,600 Staples locations.
