CHARLOTTE, N.C -- A seventh grade student is accused of bringing a loaded gun to a Charlotte middle school on Tuesday, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools official.

School administrators were informed around 11:30 a.m. that a 12-year-old student brought a loaded gun on Community House Middle School's campus Tuesday morning, according to the official.

Officials said the boy had a loaded semi-automatic 380 handgun in his book bag.

Charlotte police were notified and took the student into custody. Authorities searched the student's locker and located the gun.

No one was threatened or injured during the incident.

It seems like that is more common place nowadays, so it's scary, said one mother.

The student was taken to the uptown Law Enforcement Center to speak with authorities and will likely be transferred to the Juvenile Detention Center.

A few students told NewsChannel 36 the incident may have stemmed from a bullying situation between a pair of seventh graders.

It's shocking, especially when you have your kids go to school to get a decent education and for someone to bring a gun to school, it's ridiculous, said Darrell Spencer, who's son goes to the school.
