CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three heavily traveled roads in the Charlotte area will be closed this weekend for construction.

In north Charlotte, the Catawba Avenue bridge over I-77 closed at midnight Saturday morning. Crews there will be converting the bridge there to a diverging diamond interchange.

The road will reopen Sunday morning.

Part of Idlewild Road shut down at 8 o'clock Friday night. Crews will be working on widening it from Independence Boulevard to Monroe Road. Sharon Amity Road will serve as a detour.

Work there is expected to end by 6 a.m. Monday.

In the Elizabeth neighborhood, Hawthorne Lane between Elizabeth Avenue and East 5th Street shut down Saturday morning.

This closure is for work on the streetcar.

Streets there should be back to normal by Monday morning too.
