CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Several local students will get the chance to take a closer look at health care careers.

It s part of the Mayor's Youth Employment Program. Students in the program go to work for a local employer for eight weeks during the summer, and get some hands-on experience.

The MYEP provides paid and unpaid internships for high school youth in the public, non-profit and private sectors.

The application deadline for students to enroll in the MYEP program was January 20.

Students who wish to apply must be 16 to 18 years of age and currently enrolled in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and must be referred to the program by one of the MYEP program partners, according to the MYEP program press release.
