ROCKHILL, S.C. -- Rock Hill police say they've apprehended the people they believe are responsible for several payday loan store robberies.

Just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police say a heavy-set black male entered the PayDay Loans and Check Cashing store in the 200 block of Cherry Road, held the clerk at gunpoint and demanded the cash drawer be emptied into his black backpack.

Then, the suspect zip-tied the lone store clerk and fled, police say.

A Rock Hill PDDetective was driving on Cherry Road when the call went out for the armed robbery. Being familiar with the green Honda Passport as a suspect vehicle in a similar robbery last week, the detective and officers initiated a traffic stop at the Citgo gas station on Cherry Road.

Officers recovered a black backpack full of cash and a BB gun that looked like a real gun, according to authorities.

Police arrested Christopher Washington, 36 and Tiffany Mayhew, 32, both from Kannapolis, without incident.

Detectives are working to link the duo to the armed robbery of the Quick Cash on Cherry Road last week.
