GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A standoff situation in Gaston County ended peacefully with an arrest Thursday morning.

It started around 7 a.m. at a house on Fox Trail Drive.

Police say an older man suffering from dementia ran his family out of the home with a rifle and then barricaded himself inside the house.

The standoff lasted four hours until he came outside.

The man was immediately taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

No one was hurt.
