ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop University confirms the school has suspended President Jamie Comstock Williamson.

The Board of Trustees voted 12-1 on the basis for termination. Based on her contract, Williamson is entitled to speak to the board before further action. If she chooses to do so, it will happen on June 26.

Provost and Vice President Debra Boyd will assume the responsibilities.

Williamson became president less than a year ago.

The school s statement did not formally address the reason for suspension.

The Rock Hill Herald reports the termination notice comes one day after she and her husband returned the $27,000 he earned last year while working for the school.On Thursday, Williamson and her husband, Larry, returned the money he earned while working part-time in the president's office in the last school year.
