NEWTON, N.C. After two weeks and no arrest in the murder of popular school teacher and counselor Maggie Daniels, many in Newton are concerned about a killer on the loose.

It s scary, said Rena Houser, who lives across from the apartment where her friend lived and died.

Daniels was last seen alive in a security camera photo from Walmart two weeks ago today.

The following morning she was found sprawled on the floor of her bedroom.

Police have not said how she was killed, no suspect has been named, and people in the complex are afraid.

Said Houser, It s very troubling not knowing if it was just somebody that had something against her or just a random that may come back.

I miss her. I couldn t stop crying, said Jasmine McLean.

McLean was a pregnant high school student when she had Maggie Daniels as a teacher and a friend, a friend who reached out to help her.

I need closure because she was a good lady. I loved her as a friend because she was there like that, a teacher and a friend, McLean said.

It is not known if police have any substantial leads or are close to an arrest, and that worried Scout Barker, who like Maggie Daniels, is an avid runner.

I run every day so I go through town and it is scary to know that there could be someone out there that has done that to a woman, said Barker.

Police Chief Donald Brown said investigators would again be working through the weekend on the case, following up on every lead that comes in.
