CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Conover mother has been charged with child abuse after police said she was seen tampering with her infant daughter's intravenous line at a Charlotte hospital.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Ladonna Parlier, 26, abused her infant daughter on several occasions.
Officers said they were tipped off by doctors at Carolinas Medical Center after the child arrived there recently.
Police sources told The Charlotte Observer that hospital staff saw Parlier injecting some sort of substance into her 5-month-old daughter's IV line.
Officers came to the hospital at 2:40 a.m. on Thursday and launched a joint investigation with the Department of Social Services.
The daughter remains in the hospital.
Parlier is charged with five counts each of felony child abuse and misdemeanor child neglect.
She was being held Thursday in the Mecklenburg County jail under $137,500 bond.
