CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The CIAA is getting ready for their annual basketball tournament that starts Tuesday in the Queen City.

The CIAA has been around for 100 years and Charlotte is happy to join in the celebrations.

Thousands of fans from the 12 member schools, and even those just looking for fun, will flood Charlotte for the 100-year celebration of the CIAA tournament at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

But the arena will not be the only place making money this week. Hotels, restaurants, stores and nightspots will all reap the financial benefits of the CIAA 100 years.

One-hundred years means a lot, CIAA Interim CIAA Commissioner Peggy Davis said, There s not another conference in the country that can say we've been around 100 years . Our alumni who started with us, the institution who joined the conference back in 1912 can truly say they ve been a part of history.

While the tournament is in town, you can expect to see plenty of police officers out keeping an eye on things.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the big event is a good opportunity to practice for the Democratic National Convention later this year.
