CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rescue crews had to rush nearly a dozen people--six of them children under the age of five--to the hospital after a bad accident in the University-area Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics transported 11 people to Carolinas Medical Center-University from the wreck at the intersection of John Kirk Drive and University Terrace Drive. They all suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police said that all 11 people hurt were traveling in a GMC Yukon that was run into by a Honda Civic just before 4 p.m.

The driver of the Honda was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Neither she nor her passenger were hurt.

The driver of the Yukon was cited for having five unrestrained children in the vehicle.

The intersection was closed for about 45 minutes while police investigated the accident.
