CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The annual Scouting for Food Drive is in full swing this week.

The Mecklenburg County Council of the Boy Scouts will make door-to-door stops today for Scouting for Food Drive and Loaves and Fishes, the organization who sponsors the event.

The boys will collect canned goods to donate to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. Food donated during 'Scouting for Food Drive' will help feed those in need.

Last year the drive collected 255,000 pounds of food for Loaves and Fishes.

There will be food collection barrels at local Harris Teeter stores in the Charlotte area.

Tractor-trailer trucks will also be collecting food at various sites (see below) today from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Major needs include canned meat, canned pastas, cereal, canned fruit and 100-percent fruit juice.

NBC Charlotte's Larry Srpinkle is broadcasting live from the Harris Teeter at the Arboretum. He'll be helping scouts collect donations and having a good time!
