ROCKHILL, S.C. -- Police in Rock Hill say they've closed their investigation into a former middle school assistant principal accused of trading child porn.
Darin Pearson, 32, was arrested in mid-March following a tip from the Metro National Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The tip, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, indicated Pearson was involved in trading child pornography.
At the time charges were filed, Rock Hill Police began their own investigation, and now say they've determined Pearson did not store any child pornography on school-issued equipment, nor did they find he'd engaged in sexual relations with any students in the district.
CMPD Youth and Cyber Crimes Detectives, along with SBIagents, searched Pearson's residence in mid-March and seized electronic documents they say connected him to child pornography.
Pearson is facing five counts of sexual exploitation of a child filed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Following the charges filed against him, Pearson resigned as Assistant Principal of Sullivan Middle School. He's worked as a teacher with the district from 2002 to 2007, and was once named teacher of the year. Prior to 2002, Pearson served the district as a substitute.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say there's no evidence to suggest Pearson has assaulted any children in the Charlotte area.
Rock Hill Schools released the following statement to NBCCharlotte regarding the latest developments:
The district is still disappointed in the behavior of Mr. Pearson, but pleased that the police did not find any photos or indications of misconduct on his district-issued equipment.
