CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- A teenager is accused of shooting his mother and leaving her for dead in the front yard, according to the Catawba County Sheriff s Office.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 6500 block of Old Shelby Road.
Investigators say an off-duty officer noticed the Sherry Rhoney face-down in the grass, covered in blood.
Rhoney s 17-year-old son Daniel and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Elizabeth Fowler, have been charged with attempted murder.
Police say Daniel Rhoney and Fowler, who were home at the time, first told investigators they didn t know what happened.
Officers returned to arrest the teens after Sherry told police and doctors he shot her.
Rhoney is being held on a $1 million bond. Fowler's bond has been set for $500,000.
