BURKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Two children killed in a Burke County house fire have been identified.

Firefighters were unable to rescue 11-year-old Xander Hudson and 6-year-old Piper Hudson. The medical examiner determined the cause of their deaths to be smoke inhalation.

The fire destroyed the home on Old Laurel Road last Thursday. Investigators are still working to determine the cause.

The other eight people in the house at the time escaped safely.
