MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A southeast Charlotte high school was placed on lockdown after a bank was robbed Wednesday morning.
The robbery took place shortly around 9:45 a.m. at the Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union at 11110 East Independence Boulevard near Matthews-Mint Hill Road, according to the Matthews Police Department
As a result, Butler High School was placed on lockdown at 10 a.m. before it was lifted around 10:20 a.m. The school is located at 1810 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Matthews.
No one was injured in the incident.
Matthews police say the suspect is a heavyset black man who is approximately 6'2 and was last seen wearing blue jeans with a grey sweatshirt and blue hat. Police say he has salt-and-pepper colored hair with a goatee.
The robber left the scene on foot, police say.
