OXFORD, N.C. (AP) -- The North Carolina governor's race is going to be a long one. For Libertarian Party nominee Barbara Howe, it'll be literally chopped up into 5-kilometer increments.

Barbara Howe planned to kick off her bid for governor Saturday by completing a 5K run in her hometown of Oxford. Howe said her goal is to complete similar runs in all 100 counties, wrapping up in Raleigh with a run to the Executive Mansion.

Howe said she hopes this kind of grass-roots campaigning will give her the chance to meet voters and let them learn about Libertarian principles. She'll post her scheduled runs on her web site.

Howe is a longtime Libertarian Party leader making her third run for governor.

Democrat Walter Dalton and Republican Pat McCrory also are campaigning.
