CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Neighbors in a Southwest Charlotte neighborhood woke up to the sounds of fire trucks Sunday morning.

A home in the 500 block of McAlway Road went up in flames around 3:30 a.m. Twenty-seven firefighters worked for 40 minutes to get the flames under control.

Officials say the family was able to escape the home unharmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
