CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Another Republican is getting into the race for South Carolina's vacant 1st District congressional seat.

State Rep. Peter McCoy of James Island announced Friday he will enter the race. He becomes the fourth sitting state lawmaker to enter the race for the seat vacated when Tim Scott was appointed South Carolina's newest U.S. senator.

There are now at least 11 Republicans and two Democrats who will be running.

Former Gov. Mark Sanford as well as Teddy Turner, the son of media magnate Ted Turner, are also in the race for the GOP nomination. On the Democratic side, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert is running.

The district runs from the Charleston area to Hilton Head Island. The filing period ends Monday.
