CHARLOTTE, N.C. The St. Patrick's Day Pub crawl was held in uptown Charlotte Saturday.

Last year more than 15,000 people attended the event. This year, organizers tell NBC Charlotte more than 16,000 people purchased tickets.

Officials said that's a new record. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they were ready for the crowds.

We've got bike officers, mobile officers as well as officers on foot. Our goal is just is to just create a safe environment for people to come downtown and have a good time. This event has been growing over the years. We ve been fortunate to not have any major events and we plan on continuing that trend today, said Captain Mike Campagna.
