EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -- Two piers along North Carolina's southern Outer Banks have been damaged in Hurricane Irene.

Emerald Isle town manager Frank Rush says the end of Bogue Inlet Pier collapsed. In addition, NewsChannel 36 anchor Anjanette Flowers says part of the pier behind the Oceanana Resort in Atlantic Beach has collapsed.

Forecasters say Hurricane Irene made landfall about 7:30 a.m. near Cape Lookout.
