KANNAPOLIS, N.C. An apartment complex in Kannapolis had to be evacuated after a man admitted to running a meth lab, according to police.

Russell Lee Wright, 45, was arrested after police investigated his apartment on 821 South Main Street and say they found a small meth lab inside.

Police say Wright confessed to running the meth lab and was located inside with a woman. The State Bureau of Investigation was contacted and helped clear the meth lab. Apartment complex residents were moved to a shelter with the help of the Red Cross while the apartment was cleaned.

Wright was charged with possessing and manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia and other charges. He was placed in the Cabarrus County Jail pending a court date.

The woman was not arrested but charges may be filed.
