MARSHVILLE, N.C. A Union County Sheriff s Deputy stumbled upon a fatal car crash Monday afternoon that may have been there for days.

Ashley Reynolds, 26, of Coward, South Carolina, was found dead around 3:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Austin Grove Church Road and Forest Hills School road in Union County.

Police were searching for Reynolds, who was reported missing by her family on Sunday.

Investigators said the mother of three children had been drinking on Saturday and drove off after a fight with her husband at a house in nearby Marshville.

Gordon Titcomb lives on the other side of Austin Grove Church Road, where the badly damaged Chevy was finally found.

Titcomb said he never heard anything Saturday night but around noon on Sunday he noticed car tracks going into the woods.

And there was no woods or anything packed down so I assumed it just got pulled back out--somebody had hooked it and pulled it out, he said.

Titcomb said he wished he d looked a bit more on Sunday.

You can still see so much brush, he said.

While it didn t help ease his feelings, Titcomb was not the only person who missed seeing the car.

Several people in the family actually did drive down the road looking for her and did not locate her, said Sergeant J.A. Williams of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers concluded the crash occurred Saturday evening and told NewsChannel 36 that Reynolds was not wearing her seat belt. According to investigators, speed and alcohol are possibly factors in the crash.
