CHARLOTTE, N.C. A deputy fired shots at a man accused of ramming his police motorcycle with a car Friday evening, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff s Office.

The deputy originally tried to pull over the suspect around 4:30 p.m. near Albemarle Road and East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The sheriff s office said the suspect, 47-year-old Danny Lehman, veered towards the deputy s with his car. Lehman nearly struck the deputy, who was driving on W.T. Harris Blvd. on his motorcycle.

The deputy then pulled Lehman over. He appeared to stop but then allegedly put the car in reverse and backed into the motorcycle. The impact pushed the deputy and his bike about 8 to ten feet.

The officer fired three shots at the car, but Lehman drove away uninjured.

After a short pursuit, some A.L.E. (Alcohol Law Enforcement) officers who witnessed the crash found Lehman on Farm Pond Lane near Honeysuckle Lane.

Deputies took Lehman into custody and brought him to the hospital for a blood alcohol test.

The deputy has been identified as Billy Allen, a 13-year veteran of the sheriff s office. Allen suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
