HICKORY, N.C. -- Three local Fresh Air Galaxy stores have joined with the Kiwanis Club to sell support cards for the Zahra Baker All-Children s playground. Support cards can be purchased for $1, $5 and $10 and will be displayed in the storefront windows.

We are very excited that Galaxy Foods has taken the initiative in this project and hope it will serve as a roadmap for other businesses to get involved, said Lanny Huffman, President of the Hickory Kiwanis Club. As the Kiwanis Club and Kiwanis community, we find it a wonderful challenge and commitment to raise money for this cause.

All contributions will go directly toward the Kiwanis Playground Fund for Zahra Baker. The playground will be part of Kiwanis Park, located 805 6th Street, SE. In addition, Galaxy Food owners Ricky and Sheree Knighton and Steve Grindstaff have made the commitment for Galaxy Foods to match up to $5,000 of the donations made by their customers.

The local Galaxy Food stores think it is extremely important that we are involved in all aspects of our community, said Sheree Knighton of the Fresh Air Galaxy Food stores. Zahra Baker touched our community in so many ways, and participating in the fundraiser for the Zahra Baker playground will not only give our business a chance to honor her memory but will also give our community a chance to be a part of it.
