LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- The Lincoln County Adopt-A-Cop program is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the Lincoln County Schools.

As part of the program, students from the county's elementary schools are asked to participate in designing the logo for the Adopt-A-Cop T-shirt that is distributed to all the students when they attend the picnic in May.

Recently Lincolnton Mayor John Gilliland and Lincoln County Commission Chairman Alex Patton picked the winning design from a group of pictures drawn by the elementary school students. Conner Avery of Norris Childers Elementary School drew the winning design. Students who drew the second, third, fourth and fifth place winners will also be recognized at the picnic.

The Adopt-A-Cop Picnic will be held on May 11 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at South Fork Park in Lincolnton. Opening ceremony speakers will be Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter and Lincolnton Police Chief Rodney Jordan and other local officials. Students will see displays from area law enforcement and emergency services agencies and other units of interest.
