(CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The host committee bringing the Democratic National Convention to Charlotte has recruited former President Bill Clinton to cover its nearly $40 million costs.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Clinton is the featured guest at what's called an intimate lunch in Beverly Hills, Calif., on June 14. The invitation says tickets start at $25,000 per couple and go to $100,000.

The event sponsored by the Charlotte host committee will be held at the home of Haim Saban, an entertainment industry mogul.

The Charlotte host committee also is unveiling a stock car bearing the names of donors from around the country who contributed $5. The stock car is meant to show how convention organizers are relying more than in past years on small donors.
